This pattern is for a bit more of a drapey cowl, and uses exactly one skein of Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick. Gauge is not too important…approx 2 sts and 3 rows per inch. Size 17 needles, have a tapestry needle for sewing the seam.
Cable Pattern:
Row 1, 3, 5 (RS): p1, *k6, p1; repeat from * twice more
Row 2, 4, 6 (WS): k1, *p6, k1; repeat from * twice more
Row 7: p1, *slip next three sts off of needle and hold in back of work, k next 3 sts, put the 3 sts in back of work on the needle and k those sts, p1; repeat from * twice more
To make the cowl:
CO 22 sts.
Work rows 1-7 of Cable Pattern.
Work row 2-7 nine times
Work row 2-6.
BO loosely, dropping the two p sts in between the cables. Assist the yarn in laddering down to the CO row.
Using tapestry needle and remaining yarn, use mattress stitch to sew the CO edge and the BO edge together. Weave in ends and block and necessary.

Love this cowl, just finished it, in soft chunky wool 🙂 however you leave us with Loose ends so to speak, cuz when you ladder down the dropped pearl stitches, what do you do with the two loops left? If you leave them then more of the scarf will unravel, and you don’t really explain what do do with that ….
Good call! I made it so long ago, I forget! But I don’t remember having any issues with the loops — If you sew them in when you stitch up the cowl, it should keep them from going anywhere.
A question – Can you tell us what the scarf should measure when we are finished knitting, but before we work the slip stitches down into a ladder? I’m making this with size 15 needles & if I repeat the pattern 9 times it looks like it’s not going to be long enough. When the drop stitch laddering is done, will the cowl get longer? I made a different drop stitch scarf and seem to remember that it lengthened after I worked the laddering down. Almost done, so I hope someone who’s made this can answer soon.

I am confused about the pattern. Where I slip the three stitches off, onto the cable needle, do I knit from the cable needle OR do I put those stitches back onto the knitting needle and knit on the knitting needle itself?

sorry it took me so long to respond — you can do whatever makes you more comfortable. when i transfer stitches to a cable needle, i personally find it easier to just knit those 3 stitches right off the cable needle rather than transfer them back to the main needle. again, you can do whatever makes you comfortable! i hope this helps!! happy knitting 🙂

I love the pattern 🙂 thanks for posting it! I just have one question about the BO part…it says to drop the two p sts in between the cables but I only have 1 in between the cables because the pattern says p1/k1. I’m a bit confused…please help! Thanks in advance 🙂
There are three cables, with a stitch in between, so drop each stitch in between. Sorry, it was easier for me to say to drop stitches between cables than to say BO the cable, drop a stitch, BO a cable, drop a stitch…hope this helps!
